N Broadway Transit Improvement Project

North Broadway Transit Improvement Project

Project Information

Everett Transit is in the process of improving bus stops along Broadway, between 34th St. and 7th St. In order to consolidate efforts with other City projects along the corridor, the initial construction timeline was rescheduled from 2017 to 2018‐2019.

Due to the nature of the work, there will be noise, traffic and parking restrictions. During work hours, there may be some right lane closures at some of the work sites and some driveways and parking may not be available. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you. Everett Transit will hire a contractor to perform the work. Normal work hours are expected to be 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and some work may be done on Saturdays and Sundays, to lessen the impact on some businesses. The City’s Traffic Engineering department will determine the best timeframe for construction, and times may be different than described here. The contractor will be responsible for notifying adjacent property owners/tenants in advance of any closures.

The purpose of this project is to add bus bulbs to each of the bus stops within the corridor. A bus bulb is a cement pad that projects out from the curb to allow a bus to stop in the lane of travel (right‐hand lane) to facilitate the boarding and de‐boarding of passengers. Since the bus will stop in the lane of travel, the length of each bus stop zone can be significantly shortened compared to the existing zones. In addition to the bus bulbs, Everett Transit will be adding new amenities to most bus stops, such as shelters, benches, trash cans, and bike racks.

The project will include accessibility improvements at thirteen intersections, and the restoration of eighteen parking stalls for businesses along the corridor.

Since the initial design phase and public notice in June 2016, one stop location changed, at California Ave. – now a planned mid‐block stop between Everett Ave. and California Ave.

As a result of public feedback, Everett Transit is working with the City’s Cultural Arts Department in the development of amenities that improve the visibility and aesthetics of the stops in this corridor.
